Christ, the True 'Life-Blood' of Life

Living, receiving from the root which is Christ, the 'life-blood' by which we participate in the divine life. Commenting on today's Gospel, where Jesus tells his disciples: 'I am the true life and my Father is the vine', Pope Benedict XVI urged the faithful in St. Peter's Square to grow in faith with the help of the pastors of the Church. "Each of us is like a branch," he said, "that lives only if it is growing every day in her union with the Lord in prayer, participation in the Sacraments, in charity." In his greetings after the Regina Coeli, Benedict XVI recalled the Swiss Guards who today celebrate their feast, and thanked the Meter Association for their commitment to child victims of violence.
